Using sensor technology for data capture and analytics, funded by the European Space Agency

Rescon Technologies is an innovation company based in the UK. They have an award-winning software platform: a back-end system for improving health and wellbeing, and to conduct research and development across multiple market sectors.

 

We have worked with the Rescon Technologies team for a number of years, most recently on European Space Agency funded hardware development, with a novel sensor technology platform for advanced data capture and analytics.

the goal

Rescon Technologies wanted to integrate a set of novel sensors within a wearable technology prototype in order to see advanced analytics of both sports performance and patient monitoring. This focus on health and wellbeing was beautifully aligned with Thrive’s own, as was their mission to support people to manage their own wellness.

the challenge

Rescon Technologies wanted to integrate a set of novel sensors within a wearable technology prototype in order to see advanced analytics of both sports performance and patient monitoring. This focus on health and wellbeing was beautifully aligned with Thrive’s own, as was their mission to support people to manage their own wellness. 

 

The main challenge was the ability to capture high data rate signals onboard and transfer information over the air for real-time visualisation and monitoring. The system needed to be appealing and attractive for users, but also allow for experimental flexibility by increasing the feature count for data capture.  

the solution

 

We worked with the client to understand the data resolution, form factor constraints and unit production, producing a detailed and accurate project roadmap. The functional specification we created both addressed data requirements and met outline aesthetic needs. We prototyped all elements of the system, using CAD rendering and advanced 3D printing techniques alongside traditional machining and moulding systems. We refined the data flows and functional requirements, creating and producing a batch of 20 Concept Prototypes for user testing. We then worked with Rescon’s scientists to adjust and improve the system.
